Convergence, convergence, convergence: Toshiba unveils the Qosmio notebook computer, which you can use to watch TV without having to boot up the computer. (Of course, to get any sort of DVR capability out of this setup, you have to fire up the computer.)

A cool idea on the surface. However, I seem to remember that Acer came out with a couple of notebook models about 5-7 years ago that had a similar functionality: CD drives that could be used as stand-alone music players, without engaging the computer. It seemed like a great feature, especially for mobile computing warriors who wanted to kill time listening to tunes. But it didn't catch on within the industry; I guess no one considered it an enticing enough perk. So I wonder if the TV-only feature will be emulated, or will stand out as a curiosity.
