da senator
Who figures a U.S. Senate race in Illinois could become so compelling? Mere weeks after a Jeri Ryan-involved sex scandal topples the prospective Republican candidate, the Illinois GOP is angling to run former Bears player and coach Mike Ditka for the Senate seat, an idea that intrigues Da Coach.

The snags? His wife isn't in favor of a run. Even Ditka's awesome name recognition might not be enough to beat Democratic state Senator Barack Obama at this late stage. And of course, Ditka would have to give up his lucrative broadcasting jobs and endorsement deals, including his pitchman role for the Levitra penis pills. Not to mention the political hay to be made out of that last gig.

Senator Ditka? Seems unlikely. Then again, a year ago, so did Governor Schwarzenegger.
