Even though it's been available on these shores for ages, Dutch beer Grolsch is being promoted vigorously of late, through a series of television, magazine and other media ads.

I've seen many of the spots. The swingtop bottlecap is cute, and I'm sure that gimmick will help it stick out in a crowded beer market.

Still, whenever I see any of those ads, or even hear the name "Grolsch", I can't help but be reminded of the indirect assessment given to the brew by Sean Bateman in Bret Easton Ellis' "The Rules of Attraction", when a bottle of the stuff is the only thing his roommate has to drink:
Grolsch--what an asshole.
