SMOKE ON THE BOROUGHS

New York City's combination of onerous taxation, bans, and cessation programs seemingly has had the desired effect, as the Big Apple's smoker population dropped by more than 100,000 last year, according to the New York Times.

It occurs to me that another reason for the drop-off could have been the death of scores of smokers from lung cancer, emphysema, and other glamorous side effects of puffing away.
