The Critical 'I'

Read. React. Repeat.

So I stumbled across Sex in Lisbon, a fellow BlogSpot blog. As you might expect from the title, it's out of Portugal, and is written in Portuguese.

Just about every post on this blog is getting from 100 to 200 plus comments.

I'm amazed. I'm shocked. I'm wishing I could read Portuguese!

I mean, what's the deal? I've never seen any blog that gets that much feedback. Until now, I considered indications of a large readership to be regular comments of some 10 to 15 per post, on average. I hadn't seen anything yet, I guess.

Do I sound envious? I'm lucky if I get a couple of posts per week. But no, I'm not jealous.

The thought did occur to me that, based on the presence of the letters s-e-x in the blog's title and URL, it might be a magnet for commenting spambots, and this would account for that much activity in the comment boxes. Again, I can't read the stuff, so I don't know (Babelfish's translations are imperfect and limited). I imagine that, if this were the case, the blogmasters (Sofia and SebastiĆ£o) would have ditched the commenting feature; if I were getting dozens of junk comments, I sure would. But that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.
